Hi, I’m Dr Ailis Brosnan. Your Healthy Living Coach is the culmination of  my 25 years’ experience in health and fitness in the UK, USA and Ireland. I am passionate about achieving optimal health as a means to leading a full enjoyable life, and my holistic, effective approach will help you reach your health and fitness goals.

Having lived and travelled in India, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Europe, the UK and the USA, I have explored a myriad of approaches to health and well-being. Over the years I recognised the need for an integrated model of health which values the importance of creating health on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I am an advocate of plant-based, nutrient-dense diets and have been vegan for about 20 years, I am an enthusiastic exerciser and value the importance of a spiritual practice.  I practice what I preach and I am passionate about helping others! I blend latest research with a holistic approach to create an original and effective approach to improving your health through 1-1 coaching, workshops, online programs and retreats.

My qualifications and research

I hold a first class honours degree in Exercise Science from DeMontfort University in the UK. I also have a Master’s degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Management, which I completed in the USA (graduated with highest honours). My third degree is a Professional Doctorate degree in Health Sciences (Psychology). I was awarded my Doctorate for the development of a physical activity programme for overweight women, which had tremendous outcomes not only in fitness and weight loss but also in terms of participants’ well-being and happiness.

In addition to my formal qualifications, I have various certifications including Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, Plant Based Nutrition, Living Foods Instructor, Yoga teacher, Weight management and Nutrition, Dance Movement therapy, Mental Health First Aid Trainer, Online Groups Training Intensive, along with certifications in a range of holistic therapies. I strive to keep up to date with latest developments and am always engaged in some form of learning and personal development.

My work experience

My work experience spans over 20 years and ranges from working as a Wellness Coordinator for a large corporation in the Silicon Valley (California, USA) to running my own Health Promotion business ‘Alive and Well’. My experience also includes working for the HSE (Ireland) where I provide advice in relation to national physical activity policies, strategies and programmes. I have written booklets on physical activity and am a member of national steering groups of a number of organisations involved in the promotion of physical activity. I also worked as a Senior Health Promotion Specialist, supporting and assessing companies for Scotland’s Health at Work Award scheme. I have spent time volunteering in a variety of places ranging from Mother Teresa’s centers in Calcutta, to a kibbutz in Israel to a Holistic Centre on a Greek island.

My passions

I live in Ireland with my husband and two children. In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors with my family. I love cycling, running, hiking, dancing, swimming, triathlons and anything else that involves moving! In the past, I won numerous running and triathlon events and was selected to represent Ireland in the World Mountain Running and the World Age-group Triathlon – but now I participate in events for the fun. My other loves in life are travelling, reading, alternative therapies, personal development, trying out new raw vegan recipes, decluttering (!) and most of all, enjoying quality time with my wonderful family.
